Hunter Hotels has taken the threat to the environment very seriously and apart from various Green Policy endorsements, Hunter Hotels has also become a member of the Planet Green Ocean Blue foundation as well as currently a member of The Green Leaf Foundation and will be looking to future developments and involvement with other organisations promoting a ‘greener’ environment.
Gorah Elephant Camp recently won the Greenleaf Foundation Green Award in May 2008 for its contribution to the environment and it commitment to advocating Green Policies. Gorah was recognised for instituting the following green policies:

• renewable energy in solar power
• the installation of the Super Sewer which uses the latest in enzymes and biotechnology to ensure that sewerage water is able to be re used for irrigation. The final water product contains no harmful coli bacteria
• candles & all other waste is recycled
• all firewood is from alien plant species
• cleaning products are bio degradable and contain no harmful chemicals such as bleaches
• building has taken place around indigenous trees and plants
• no harmful fertilisers are used in the gardens

Hunters Country House / Tsala Treetop Lodge / Marataba Safari Company have adopted the following green policies:
• the super sewer, in operation as with Gorah Elephant Camp
• cleaning products are bio degradable and contain no harmful chemicals such as bleaches
• Dustbins are sorted for recycling of glass, plastic, tins, bottles
• all firewood is from alien plant species
• light bulbs are energy saving
• Aircons are put off when not in use
• building has taken place around indigenous trees and plants
• no harmful fertilisers are used in the gardens
